Upon your arrival at the Guwahati Airport (GAU) or railway station, your private executive vehicle will pick you up to begin your journey toward the world-renowned Kaziranga National Park Official Website. This scenic 4-to-5-hour drive winds through fertile Assamese plains and lush tea gardens. After arriving in Kaziranga, check in to your premium wildlife resort and spend the evening relaxing or exploring a nearby local village. Enjoy a traditional Assamese dinner at your resort as you prepare for an early morning wildlife adventure.
Start your day at dawn with an exhilarating Elephant Safari or an open-top Jeep Safari through the park's Western or Central range to spot the magnificent Great Indian One-Horned Rhinoceros, wild water buffaloes, and exotic birds. Following a hearty breakfast back at your resort, check out and begin your ascent into the mystical hills of Arunachal Pradesh toward Dirang. Reach the charming orchard valley of Dirang by late evening, check into your hotel, and enjoy the crisp, cool mountain air.
After an early breakfast, explore the highlights of Dirang including the historic Dirang Dzong (a 17th-century Monpa fort) and the soothing Dirang Hot Springs. Next, embark on one of the most breathtaking alpine drives in India toward Tawang. The highlight of today's journey is crossing the majestic Sela Pass on Google Maps, situated at an astounding altitude of 13,700 feet, where you can walk along the shores of the sacred, semi-frozen Sela Lake. We will also stop at the Jaswant Garh War Memorial to pay homage to the heroic 1962 war martyr, Rifleman Jaswant Singh Rawat. Arrive in the spiritual town of Tawang by evening, check into your cozy mountain lodge, and acclimatize to the high altitude.
Dedicate your morning to an unforgettable excursion to the Indo-China border at Bum La Pass, located at 15,200 feet above sea level. Please note that this sector requires a special army permit, and we will transfer you into a locally registered, certified high-altitude vehicle for safety. Witness the snow-clad border peaks and interact with the brave Indian Army personnel stationed at the frontier. On your return journey, stop at the mesmerizing Sangetsar Lake, popularly known as Madhuri Lake, which was formed by a massive earthquake and features ethereal dead tree trunks rising from its crystal waters. Return to Tawang by afternoon to rest and warm up.
Spend today exploring the crown jewels of Tawang at a relaxed pace. Begin with the majestic Tawang Monastery, the largest monastery in India and the second-largest in the world, founded in the 17th century. Wander through its grand prayer halls, admire the three-story golden Buddha statue, and explore its rich historical museum. Next, visit the Urgeling Monastery, the serene birthplace of the 6th Dalai Lama, followed by the Ani Gompa (nunnery). In the evening, attend the deeply moving Light and Sound Show at the Tawang War Memorial, which beautifully chronicles the history of the region and the bravery of Indian soldiers.
Bid farewell to Tawang and begin your return journey down the mountains toward the panoramic town of Bomdila. The drive offers a fresh perspective of the Eastern Himalayas, passing through cascading waterfalls and dense alpine forests. Along the way, we will stop at the thundering Nuranang Falls (Jung Falls), a spectacular 100-meter drop hidden amidst lush greenery. Upon reaching Bomdila by afternoon, check into your hotel and head out to visit the Bomdila Monastery (Gontse Gaden Rabgyel Lling). Catch a breathtaking panoramic view of the snow-capped Gorichen and Kangto peaks from the town's highest viewpoints during sunset.
After breakfast, begin your final long descent from the hills of Arunachal Pradesh back to the plains of Assam, heading toward Guwahati. This road trip allows you to soak in the changing landscapes one last time and pick up local souvenirs like Monpa wooden crafts or handwoven carpets along the way. Arrive in Guwahati by late afternoon or early evening. To celebrate the conclusion of your Himalayan road trip, we highly recommend booking an evening Al Fresco Cruise on the Brahmaputra River to witness a stunning river sunset, followed by a comfortable overnight stay at a city hotel.
On your final day, depend on your flight or train timings, seek blessings at the sacred Kamakhya Temple atop Nilachal Hill, one of the oldest and most revered Shakti Peethas in India.
