"Scotland of the East"—a romantic, misty, high-end mountain getaway that serves as an exotic alternative to crowded Himalayan hill stations.
Your Northeast adventure begins upon your arrival at Guwahati Airport or Railway Station. Our representative will receive you and drive you toward Shillong, a scenic 3-hour journey filled with winding roads and pine trees. Along the way, you will stop at the magnificent Umiam Lake, a massive man-made reservoir where you can enjoy boating or simply take in the panoramic waterscapes. Arriving in Shillong, you will check into your hotel and freshen up. In the evening, you can explore the bustling Police Bazar, the city’s vibrant central hub perfect for local shopping, street food, and experiencing the urban Khasi culture before your overnight stay.
After an early breakfast, you will check out and embark on a breathtaking drive to Cherrapunji (Sohra), historically known as one of the wettest places on Earth. En route, you will visit the towering Laitlum Canyons, which offer deep, dramatic gorges and endless green valley views. As you enter Cherrapunji, the landscape shifts into a paradise of dramatic cliffs and gushing water. You will explore the spectacular Mawsmai Cave, a naturally lit limestone cave system, followed by the iconic Nohkalikai Falls, India’s tallest plunge waterfall. End your sightseeing at the stunning Seven Sisters Falls and check into your Cherrapunji resort for a misty, peaceful overnight stay.
Today features an excursion to the border town of Dawki, famous for its impossibly clear waters. You will drive down to the Umngot River, where you can experience a magical boat ride where the water is so transparent that boats appear to float in mid-air. Next, you will head to the nearby adventure hub of Shnongpdeng for optional riverside activities like cliff jumping or ziplining. On your drive back to Cherrapunji, you will stop at Mawlynnong, acclaimed as Asia’s Cleanest Village, to stroll through its spotless, flower-lined lanes and witness the fascinating Living Root Bridge in neighboring Riwai village. You will return to Cherrapunji in the evening for your overnight stay.
Following breakfast, you will bid farewell to Cherrapunji and head back toward Shillong. Your first major stop of the day will be the Mawphlang Sacred Forest, a preserved ancient grove steeped in Khasi mythology where taking anything out of the forest is strictly forbidden. Next, you will visit the Don Bosco Museum, an exceptional multi-story cultural archive showcasing the rich indigenous heritage of all eight Northeastern states. Conclude your day's sightseeing at Elephant Falls, a beautiful three-tiered waterfall accessible via easy walking steps. Check into your Shillong hotel for your final night in the hills.
On your final day, you will check out of your hotel after breakfast and begin your return journey to Guwahati. Depending on your flight or train schedule, you will visit the highly revered Kamakhya Temple atop Nilachal Hill, a significant Shakti Peeth temple offering deep spiritual insights and sweeping views of the Brahmaputra River. After seeking blessings, our driver will drop you off directly at the Guwahati Airport or Railway Station for your onward journey home, concluding your memorable Meghalaya tour.
